ABOUT
Australian born soprano Bethany Shepherd studied Classical Singing at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music, under renowned Wagnerian soprano Lisa Gasteen. After obtaining a Bachelor degree with distinction in Australia, Bethany moved to The Netherlands to undertake studies in Early Music at the Koninklijk Conservatorium.
Bethany has appeared in operas and concerts across Australia and Europe, with repertoire ranging from Renaissance lute songs to 21st Century music. Operatic roles include La Fée in Massenet's Cendrillon, Miss Wordsworth in Britten's Albert Herring and Belinda in Purcell's Dido and Aeneas.
Oratorio performances include the soprano solo in Die Schöpfung and the Johannes Passion, Bach's virtuoso solo cantata Jauchzet Gott in allen Landen, and the soprano solo in the Australian premiere of C.H Graun's Der Tod Jesu. Bethany has a special love for French Baroque repertoire, and has taken masterclasses with the International Rameau Ensemble and Christophe Rousset, and performed excerpts of Les Indes Galantes with the Orchestra of the Eighteenth Century under Frans Brüggen.
